Law and Social Movements

Law and Social MovementsThe PITF assisted with these challenges by:
a) Working with the professor to identify and compile video excerpts for delivery via the course iSite.
b) Developing a website with resources and best practices for effective presentations. The site includes a variety of presentation tools, including Xtranormal, VoiceThread, Powerpoint, and more.
c) Identifying a solution that would allow Professor Guinier to collect student feedback and then deliver individual student feedback in a streamlined manner while storing it in an easily accessible archive for future reference.

Teaching Challenge:

The Law and Social Movements Seminar examined the interaction of law and social movements and investigated advocacy strategies employed by lawyers within social movements. As part of the course, students, in groups of 3 or 4 out of a class of approximately 50, were expected to develop and present a case study that explained the role of law, lawyers, social movements and social change. They then presented the case studies to the class near the end of the semester. Professor Guinier observed that students had varying levels of competence in developing a professional quality presentation. She also found that students needed assistance with posting video excerpts to the course iSite. Lastly, she sought options for delivering more streamlined presentation feedback to and from students.
